The Sports Watercooler

It seems like everyone is on some sort of winning streak today. Not just a mundane 16 point victory over Virginia will get you mentioned Duke.

First, and obviously most important, Notre Dame continued their home winning streak by beating St. John's. Not only did they extend the current second longest home winning streak in the country, but they became the first team in Big East history to never lose a game at home in 2 consecutive years. And did anyone else get warm, fuzzy feelings when "honoring the seniors" really just meant that Kurz got to leave the game with 4 seconds left to a standing ovation? This season isn't even over yet and I am pumped for next year.

Next, inexplicably, the Rockets keep winning, winning their 16th straight, by beating the Pacers. They haven't lost since January 27, and even without Yao, keep on winning. When you are getting points by a dude named Carl Landry, you are doing something right. The 16 consecutive wins is a franchise record.

Not to be outdone, the Jazz have won their 17th straight home game. Although their win was against Minnesota, so there is some claims that the win should only count has half, if at all.

Meanwhile, in the Eastern division, the Celtics have claimed the first playoff spot, beating Detroit in what is possibly a match up of the best two Eastern division teams. And sure, it may sound impressive to lock in a playoff spot at the beginning of March, but they have only won a laughable 6 games in a row.

And LeBron James had 50 points against New York last night. Thats not really a streak, just damn impressive. Well, not the fact that he did it against the Knicks, but it helps his cause for the MVP award, a 3 man race between him, Kobe, and Chris Paul. Plus Madison Square Garden has the history and scoring 50 there just seems so much more cool. Which bodes well since he will be playing most of his home games there in 2 years.

And back-to-back (which technically is sort of a streak) NCAA basketball champions Florida quietly wonder if they can call it a three-peat if they win the NIT Championship this year. The last to Tennessee last night, essentially popping the bubble they were on.

And, I know this is a few days old, but what a better way to end a post about streaks than this.
