The Sports Watercooler

Everyone is talking about college basketball. As they should. But what about those other sports who are toiling away in March to much less fanfare? These are their stories.

Stuff like, the Houston Rockets. Only the 3rd team in NBA history to win 20 straight games. That is an impressive stat. And since I don't really watch NBA games, only read about them the day after, its nice to have tangible stats. The Celtics have won 10 in a row, which by any other standards, would have the PTI guys arguing every night about whether or not they will lose on a given night. But the Rockets have doubled that! Even to the most casual fan, that raises an eyebrow and an impressive sounding hmmmm.

And since Notre Dame plays Marquette today, I am required by law to remind everyone that Steve Novak has in no way help the Rockets winning streak other than rubbing Tracy McGrady's shoulders and giving Rick Adelmen his morning coffee.

Pointless NFL news: David Carr was signed by the Giants to be Eli Manning's back-up. Anyone want to flashback a few years ago and give the odds on that ever happening? Former back-up quarterback/current third string quarter back Jared Lorenzen consoled himself after news of his demotion by eating 45 boxes of marshmallow Peeps.

The Rays and the Yankees got in a Spring Training fight. I was about to just gloss over this little item until I saw that part of the fight was because a Yankees pitcher threw at and hit Evan Longoria while he was at bat, who I just drafted last night in one of my fantasy baseball drafts. LEAVE EVAN ALONE YANKEES! Why can't you throw at someone like Rocco Baldelli who probably would have shattered into a million pieces anyways?

Sadly, the brawl was yesterday and not today when Billy Crystal is suiting up to play for the Yankees. The punch line for this story will just be multiple choice, since there is just too much happening right there.

a) Crystal playing the infield will actually be the funniest thing he has done in the past 15 years
b) This actually makes Crystal the second youngest outfielder on the roster
c) The Twins have made it known that if the Yankees had made Crystal part of the Hughes and Cabrera package, they would have traded Santana to the Yankees
d) After the success of "My Giant", rumor has it, Crystal is just doing research for his next project "My Sweaty Redneck" starring Jason Giambi.
